Branch of Service: U.S. Navy

Trained at Great Lakes, Illinois, December 1914 until June 1915. Seaman Gunner School, New Port, Rhode Island, July 1919, Torpedo School.

Overseas: March, 1917,

Theatre of Operation: Atlantic.

Engagements: Fired on submarines from transports.

Medals Earned: Group Letter of Commendation, Secretary of Navy.   

Discharged: August 1919 at Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Rank: Gunners Mate First Class.

Served as armed guard aboard transports during war.  Eight trips across. Mined, April 9, 1917 in Irish Channel.  Abandoned ship. Credited with sinking one or two submarines.
